LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - How to develop a successful business and professional career - that’s what young women in our region learned Wednesday at the Junior Achievement Miss Business Event.
Young women were selected from Fayette, Harrison, Jessamine, Scott, Clark, and Madison counties to attend.
Annie Lawson is a junior at Great Crossing High School. She says she learned that a career path isn’t always straight, and sometimes, it can take a turn.
“I’m not limited by anything,” said Lawson. “I can do whatever I want, any dreams that I have, they’re able to be achieved. Also, your plans can change. Just because I say I want to be a labor delivery nurse now, that might mean next year I want to be a dentist.”
Ninety young women had the opportunity to get professional headshots taken, do a mock interview, network, and learn from various community leaders.
“Our goal for these young women is that they start to think intentionally about what they want to accomplish in their life,” said President of Junior Achievement of the Bluegrass Laurel Raimondo Martin. “Learning what’s important to them, and then start learning about how you build a network and create opportunities for yourself that allow you to reach those goals, and that it’s all possible.”
Jane Mosbacher Morris, the CEO of a company called “To The Market,” served as the keynote speaker of the event.
